Bathroom is actually a room with facilities for taking a bath or a shower and it typically have a sink and a toilet. The general definition is “a room where one baths”, because the old bath tubs have been replaced by modern showers and steam showers. A bathroom may feature just a shower or a bathtub or both. Bathrooms may also have a sink, often called as “washbasin” or “hand basin”, and a toilet fixture. In United States, the word “bathroom” usually means “a room containing a toilet”.
In United States, bathrooms are classified into three kinds; full bathroom, half (1/2) bathroom and “3/4 bathroom”. A full bathroom essentially features toilet, bathtub, shower and sink. Half bathroom contains just a sink and toilet and it is also known as “Powder room”. “3/4 bathroom” contains a sink, shower and a toilet. “3/4 bathroom” are normally used in US for public toilets.
Bathrooms are constructed at one or more areas of a home. Usually, a bathroom is adjacent to a bedroom, for ease. A bathroom next to the bedroom is commonly known as “attached bathroom”. Attached bathroom is very useful and easy to use at any time without leaving the bedroom.
In French, the term “en-suite” is used for the attached bathrooms, which literally means “a following”. The bedroom with an adjacent bathroom is normally called a Master Bedroom. Sometimes, one bathroom is connected to two bedrooms for saving space and money. This double room connected bathroom is rarely referred to as a “Jack and Jill bathroom”.
