Almost every speaker wire you have around you is usually striped with red and white. Car speakers come with the wire formed as a single wire so when you connecting the left and right wires to your speakers you can pull them separately at the end. This is good for arranging the speakers properly. You then have to strip the ends of the wires and put on terminals to connect to your speakers. Speaker wire is normally made out of high quality copper covered with plastic for isolating.
If you have low power speakers and you should not connect to car stereo amplifier because they will get too much power from the amp, you should connect the speakers directly to the head unit. Wires should be already installed and organized around the car deck so that you can connect speaker wires to that. You may have to strip the wires as well and then part or interlink them together with the speaker wires for proper working. Make sure you make it a proper connection using a crimp or eyelet and that you match up properly the lefts and rights. And this must be according to your deck's manual for the correct connection. If you are going to connect speakers to amplifier for higher power then you should run RCA cables from deck to the amp’s input for better sound and then run speaker wires from the amp’s output to the speakers. You will need a multi-channel amplifier to achieve this.
When you are measuring the length of wires, always give out some extra length of wire, just in case you run into different obstacles or may be make the wrong measurements. I would suggest for giving about an additional foot of wire per every 4 feet. Keep in mind that the thicker the wire, the less signal would be absorbed by the copper and higher the performance of the deck. Make sure that speaker wire is broad enough to handle the strong audio signals easily. It is recommended that always use the wire a little bigger than that is required for the car stereo. In this way, you don’t have to change the old wire if you decide to upgrade old speakers. You can buy car speaker wires at the local car stereo stores as well as online car stereo stores at a price range.
