Avoiding dependence is a central goal of anti-aging program. To the extent that your body does not work well, you may require help from others. To the extent that your mind does not work as well as it should, you may also require outside help. If you contact a specific illness or disease, pre-existing dependence may make you more susceptible than necessary.

Prevention of dependence begins with the state of mind. Independence needs to be a primary goal. You want to seek optimal physical and mental health and thus achieve the life of your own choice. This is the essence of successful aging.
